Know Before You Go

September 27 - October 6, 2024
10am-5pm Daily

As the annual Art Along the Lake: Fall Studio Tour approaches, let’s take a minute to prepare for your trip! Whether you plan to visit one stop or all of them, here are a few helpful tips to make your trip smooth and enjoyable.

  1. Grab a copy of the official Event Guide! The deadline has passed to receive a copy of the Event Guide mailed directly to you, but don’t fret! You can pick up a free copy at Visit Cook County or a number of other local shops. We also have a digital version for you! (And, take a minute right now to do “future you” a favor and add your mailing address to the list for next year!).

You will also want to know about special events happening each day. Check out our Daily Events Schedule to plan your route according to kids activities, artist talks, and art demos.

  2. Plan for low-to-no cell reception. Many areas away from downtown Grand Marais have limited cell reception. If you use google maps, you can download an offline map to help navigate those areas. You can also visit our Interactive Map and save the locations on your device (or take screen shots of the map/directions). As always, pay attention for the event signs to direct you to each stop.

  3. Gas up! Gas stations can be 30 miles apart in this neck of the woods, so make sure you have a full tank before you head out from any of the town centers.

  4. Have some cash on hand. Most of the stops accommodate credit cards, but some may only take cash or check.

  5. Plan your Fall Color Drives! We published a Fall Color Guide on our blog. Check it out to see which areas are poppin’!

  6. Share your experience! We would love to see the wonderful art and scenery you discover on this year’s tour. Share your content by tagging @artalongthelake on social media.

Still need lodging? Weekends will likely be booked in Grand Marais by now, but check farther afield or weekdays for availability. You can find comprehensive lodging information at https://www.visitcookcounty.com/lodging/

Can’t make it this year?
