Hovland to Grand Portage

For the final leg of our tour we continue eastward towards the Canadian border. First, we come to the small creative community of Hovland. Hovland is located 18 miles east of Grand Marais - a beautiful drive along the shores of Lake Superior. Grand Portage is another 17 miles east of Hovland. Home of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Grand Portage is one of the earliest Ojibwe settlements in Minnesota.

This area is known for its rugged, breathtaking beauty. Check out some of our recommendations for things to do below! You will likely lose cell reception along the way, so make sure you preload directions onto your device.
